EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM (AGES 4-5)
When it comes to developing phonemic awareness, the earlier a child starts, the better. For students between the ages of 4-5, mastering the ABC’s and corresponding sounds (phonemes) will be of utmost importance in providing a solid foundation for strong reading fluency and comprehension skills as they prepare to enter Kindergarten. This includes not only being able to visually identify each letter but also the ability to isolate and distinguish between individual sounds. To this end, our TK Phonics program is designed to help your child build fundamental skills in letter recognition, writing formation, and letter-sound correspondence. Our Math program is designed to help your child distinguish number operations, place value and number patterns. In this program, we treat every student like they are gifted and talented and will do nothing but provide support to help them succeed in Kindergarten. Please see TK Program flyer for schedule and tuition.

PHONICS (GRADES K- 3)
As beginning readers better understand how individual letters are linked to sounds, so does their ability to recognize and work with larger units of language, such as syllables, digraphs, and more complex letter blends. Strong phonological awareness thus helps a student to properly decode new and unfamiliar words. With an emphasis on applications in reading, KEONI’s Phonics program seeks to strengthen students’ foundational skills (including recognizing vowel and consonant patterns, building high-frequency/sight word vocabulary, spelling, and general listening skills) in order to achieve improved literacy and comprehension ability.

READING
We believe that reading ability is often a touchstone of overall academic performance. With strong reading skills, a student can unlock many doors to success—not only in language, but also in math, science, and much more. As such, our reading program at KEONI emphasizes both reading fluency and comprehension ability in order to improve student literacy across various areas of study. Both non-fiction/informational texts as well as fictional literature are emphasized with specific goals dependent on the child’s age and grade level. Nevertheless, each student will be working to better their attention to key words and details, retention/recall skills, ability to summarize effectively, and vocabulary building skills. Most importantly, our tutors focus on boosting students' confidence and analytical skills.

WRITING & GRAMMAR
KEONI’s Writing program focuses on a continual expansion of essential skills including the organization of ideas, writing with supporting details and facts, grammar, and spelling. As our tutors work alongside students to help make corrections and provide constructive criticism, each child will work to refine their own unique writing style while also developing strong academic research and writing ability. Per California’s Common Core State Standards, students will be working with different text types appropriate to their grade level, with narrative, explanatory, and argumentative styles of writing given the greatest priority.

MATHEMATICS
KEONI's main math program places an emphasis on core workbook study with additional practice exercises offered in a separate online module. Geared towards younger students, our program stresses bridging skill gaps and bolstering mental math skills. In training to effectively show their work and break down intricate math processes into more basic terms, students become better equipped to understand new, more advanced concepts. For older students (grades 7-12), we have opted for an approach which involves a combination of textbook lessons and workbook practice in an effort to align our program with each student's rigorous course/exam schedule at school. Tutors not only focus on theory and application but also practical test-prep skills in order to usher students ahead.
