Virtual Tutor (K-6)
KEONI is seeking an enthusiastic and well-rounded virtual tutor, a "jack/jill of all trades" type with the ability to instruct younger students in a variety of subjects.
About the role:
As a virtual tutor, this position will be 100% remote. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strength and flexibility in multiple areas of study, including writing and humanities-based subjects. A successful virtual tutor will be able to quickly build and maintain rapport with their students while encouraging focus and concentration at the same time. Patience and attentiveness are key requirements.
Tutoring typically takes place during after school hours, one-on-one. Occasionally, a tutor may work with small groups. Sessions are an hour each, and tutors will have the flexibility to choose when they are available to tutor, provided they commit to a weekly minimum of eight (8) hours. While a set number of hours is not guaranteed, sessions will be scheduled based on a tutor’s consistent availability.

Basic Responsibilities:
- Tutor K-6 students in math (up to pre-Algebra), reading comprehension, and writing (including spelling and grammar)
- Help students complete homework, create outlines/study guides, and practice for exams
- Create brief student progress reports
- Act as educational coach and mentor, being sensitive to various factors that may affect a student's academic performance
Minimum Qualifications:
- A current high school senior or undergraduate student with a 3.5 GPA or higher
- MUST be able to demonstrate marked proficiency in tutoring K-6 grade subjects. Prospective applicants will be asked to complete a qualifying aptitude test covering reading, writing, and math.
- Experience with Common Core State Standards is a plus
- Previous experience in tutoring, providing support to families, and/or working with children is a plus
Other Job Requirements:
- Must be willing to tutor a minimum of eight hours per week
- Virtual Tutoring Hours: Tuesday – Friday between 3:30 pm - 7:30 pm
- Must commit to working through the full academic year (September 2022 - May 2023)
